The “Kizhi Museum” has greatly improved the information support for its various activities. This includes transition to KAMIS 2000 (Complex Computerized Museum Information System based on ORACLE) to provide database for the museum collections, the use of geoinformation technologies for the historical site management, the use of computerized technologies of three-dimensional simulation for the development of the restoration design, and publishing.
Much attention has been given to the problem of the information support to the preservation of the architectural heritage. As restoration activity has recently become active in the museum, a design of the complex restoration of the Church of the Transfiguration (1714) is being developed. The church is on the Russian and UNESCO’sWorld Heritage Lists of UNESCO. The urgent restoration of the church interior is to be a key task in the field of computerization in Kizhi Museum with its relatively developed base of computer equipment.
The Kizhi Museum needed a complex information systems to focus and apply detailed information on all aspects related to the pieces of wooden architecture. They are:
· detailed description and classification of a piece of architecture and its parts
· information on engineering condition of a piece of architecture and its restoration history
· links to data bases of documentation archives
· monitoring of the condition of wooden structures and their members
· reconstruction of interiors
· links to data bases of museum collections and GIS

Most of the work has been done. The report will be accompanied by some programs used in the museum:
1. “Pieces of architecture” database makes it possible to accumulate detailed information on a structure, to monitor its engineering condition, to support its restoration and to accumulate graphic information
The program is provided with many reference books (persons, corporations, habitats of ethnic groups, building materials, etc.) and the program allows us to generate repots.
“Architectural monuments of Kizhi Museum” computerized catalogue based on the database was generated. It is available in Internet, on the museum site (http://kizhi.karelia.ru/architecture/frame_1.htm).
2. “Monitoring” information system has been developed for accumulation, classification and current analyses of the information on the conditions of members and elements of a structure. All data are space-adjusted making it possible to monitor the dynamics of the condition of certain logs damaged by wood-destroying fungi and bugs. The system makes it possible to analyze and to anticipate further destruction of the members. The results of the analyses are presented in visual forms (as maps and charts with colored segmentation).
3. “Iconostasis” Information System now is used only for the iconostasis of the Church of the Transfiguration. The iconostasis is dismantled and stored as parts. The icons were moved to be stored in Petrozavodsk Carved frames and painted boards (tyablos) are stored as 65 large details (frames, royal gates) and 210 minor details on Kizhi Island in the pieces of wooden architecture. The total surface area of painting and gilding is about 200 m3. It is necessary to possess a large volume of information to control the condition and to provide early conservation and preservation.
The system is space-distributed database (graphic (scaling) information on the iconostasis frame and icons interrelated to the database on structural elements of the iconostasis). It is possible to map any space-distributed information: to tie-in pictures, texts, charts and tables. The Information System helped to reconstruct the image of now dismantled iconostasis as well as to monitor the condition of the iconostasis complex and to estimate the condition according to all the parameters.
The detailed information is available on “Modern technologies for a modern museum” site of the Museum Computer Center (http://kizhi.karelia.ru/com_center//frame_1.htm).
