Abstracts:

In many libraries and archives there is quite a number of handwritten materials of great cultural and historic value. The risk always exists to loose such materials due to natural disasters, wars, fires and other accidents.

Modern information technologies allow us to create high-quality electronic copies, which guarantees a reliable conservation of materials, their circulating in the unlimited quantity of copies, and ensure easy access to them.

The most valuable books, manuscripts, and pictures are very often of low polygraphic quality: faded poor quality paper, bends, non-uniform contrast (faded ink or ill-defined pencil lines), etc.

We have developed a program for improving the quality of handwritten materials, which raises contrast, considering local spottiness of text and hindrances.

Our computer program can make electronic retouching the machine-readable handwritten material, printed texts, pictures and other images. The language of the texts does not matter.
