Abstracts:

In the beginning the Centre for Book Conservation is introduced and the main tasks for mass restoration processes like paper stabilisation and de-acidification are described shortly.
As digitisation is one of the secondary forms of conservation in the following part the situation concerning digitisation projects (mainly in Europe) is discussed on the basis of the EC project results from EVA and SEPIA. The statistics comes from digitising 141 photo collections in archives, libraries and museums. Although the results shows different approaches and behaviour the main conclusion is: beside all theoretical discussions the users starts in practice with digitisation - as one form of preservation.
The last part gives some recommendations how to provide digitisation projects and to which tasks you have to pay particular attention.
