Abstracts:

There are more than 35 universities and over 140 colleges of culture in the former Soviet Union, each offering different levels of education: higher educational programs, professional development and continuing education in librarianship and information science. I am working at the Moscow State University of Culture (MSUCA) as the chief of virtual communications department. MSUCA is the leading university among Russian universities of culture. There are 8000 students study there; over 640 lecturers (full-time) works at the MSUCA; now we teach students on 19 specialities, 60 specialisations. As we know, multimedia technologies: improve educational content; enrich teaching methods; help students to select the information which most appropriately corresponds to their learning needs and level of cognition; integrate different types of information (text, graphic, sound, animation, etc.) in a dynamic and interactive way not possible before. Although some universities have begun to offer multimedia as an academic subject and MSUCA has own site, only some of 52 departments have their own web-sites. My department has a computer class with dialup Internet-access. I posses the initiative of website creating and in its realisation (http://dvc.tvworld.ru). Besides I have created three electronic tutorials named "Multimedia technologies in culture and education" (for students), “Intellectual systems and knowledge bases” (for students), “Information technologies in education” (for post-graduate students). I use them in educational process. Now I prepare the concept model of knowledge based educational multimedia system for students in LIS. I have discussed it on some international conferences in Moscow, Tashkent, Sudak. Now we can see the following structure of the department's site: a) faculty; b) background; c) goals; d) courses; e) projects; f) conferences; g) schedule; h) welcome; j) our guests. We plan to create the following structure of collected materials: a) law documents; b) list of international associations in LIS distance learning; c) universities; d) regional centres; e) distance learning forms and methods; f) on-line courses; g) tests and shells; h) others. We support not only data base collecting and changing, but it's transformation into complex virtual communicative environment as unite educational and scientific technology. We assume the opportunity of connection of traditional and new technologies in our Internet-oriented educational model. We have some specialists at our department for web-hosting with my general coordination. We plan to disseminate the results of the project by professional press, conferences and banners change.
